Dieses Mal wünscht sich der Petition-Starter, dass "JetBlue" wieder ihren Dienst am Stewart Airport aufnimmt. Ich bin ja was Petitionen angeht leider skeptisch, dass das irgendwas nutzt - die letzte Stewart-Petition hat mit weit über 1000 Unterschriften geschlossen, aber leider hat sie genau nichts bewirkt.
This time, the person who started the petition is calling for JetBlue to resume service at Stewart Airport. I’m admittedly skeptical about petitions actually achieving anything—the last Stewart petition closed with well over 1,000 signatures, but unfortunately it had no effect at all.
🇩🇪 Kündigt sich hier eine neue Europa-Verbindung für Stewart Airport an? AeroTime schreibt, dass der im Vereinigten Königreich ansässige Teil der WIZZ Air sich um eine Genehmigung beworben hat in die USA zu fliegen. Während zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch völlig unklar ist welche Ziele in Nordamerika angeflogen werden könnten, wirft das Portal VisaHQ allerdings schon Namen wie Newark, Baltimore oder Stewart International aus. Man darf gespannt sein, ob es wirklich eine neue Stewart Verbindung wird.
Für mich persönlich würde eine Verbindung Stewart - Luton allerdings nur wenig bringen, da Luton per WIZZ nur nach Dortmund in Deutschland eine Verbindung hat. Aber warten wir mal ab - Flugpläne können sich ändern und noch sind sie nicht hier!
Nachtrag vom 6. Februar 2026: Auch Simply Flying hat sich inzwischen mit dem Thema befasst. Dort geht man jedoch davon aus, dass es sich vorerst lediglich um Charterflüge zwischen dem Vereinigten Königreich und den USA handeln wird. Begründet wird dies unter anderem damit, dass in diesem Jahr die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft stattfindet und dadurch kurzfristig ein erhöhter Bedarf an Flugkapazitäten entsteht. Mit der Aufnahme eines regulären Linienbetriebs rechnet man hingegen nicht, da es bekanntermaßen sehr schwierig ist, auf dieser Strecke ein kostendeckendes Billigflugkonzept zu etablieren. Zahlreiche andere Airlines sind daran bereits gescheitert.
🇺🇸 Is a new European connection for Stewart Airport in the works? AeroTime reports that Wizz Air’s UK subsidiary has applied for permission to operate flights to the United States. While it is still completely unclear which destinations in North America could be served, the portal VisaHQ is already mentioning names such as Newark, Baltimore, or Stewart International. It will be interesting to see whether this actually turns into a new connection to Stewart.
Personally, a Stewart–Luton route wouldn’t be of much use to me, since Wizz Air only serves Dortmund in Germany from Luton. But let’s wait and see—flight schedules can change, and nothing is confirmed yet.
Addendum dated February 6, 2026:Simply Flying has also taken up the topic, but believes that, for the time being, these will only be charter flights between the United Kingdom and the United States. This assessment is partly based on the fact that the FIFA World Cup will be held this year, leading to a short-term increase in demand for flight capacity. The launch of a regular scheduled service is considered unlikely, as it is well known how difficult it is to establish a cost-covering low-cost carrier model on these routes. Many other airlines have already failed in similar attempts.
Breeze, einer der beiden verbliebenen Anbieter am Stewart Airport hat angekündigt ab dem kommenden Frühjahr Direktflüge von Newburgh in New York nach Raleigh in North Carolina anzubieten. Angedacht sind zur Zeit 2 Flüge pro Woche.
🇺🇸 New Domestic Route Announced
Breeze, one of the two remaining carriers at Stewart Airport, has announced that it will offer direct flights from Newburgh, New York to Raleigh, North Carolina starting next spring. Currently, two flights per week are planned.
🇩🇪 Letzter Discover-Flug der Saison 2025 von und nach SWF
Der letzte Discover-Flug der Saison 2025 zum und vom Stewart International Airport (SWF) findet heute, am 23. Oktober, statt – und wie es der Zufall so will: Ich bin nicht zu Hause.
Donnerstag ist mein Bürotag, und ich muss in die Stadt, die niemals schläft.
Und obwohl ich dieses Mal sogar zwei Tage vorher wusste, dass sie wieder kommen würden, konnte ich meine Meetings in der Stadt nicht mehr verschieben.
Ein Mitglied der CFWU-Community hatte mir per Signal eine Nachricht geschickt: Die Crew, die für den Rückflug der Maschine nach Frankfurt zuständig ist, wird per Linienflug zwei Tage vorher irgendwo in der „Nähe“ des Flughafens abgesetzt. Fabian, der Teil dieser Crew war, hat mir geschrieben als sie auf dem Weg in ihr Hotel waren – "klasse Sache, und super, dass du an mich gedacht hast!".
Aber noch toller finde ich, dass er in meiner Abwesenheit kurz vor dem Abflug zwei Fotos von dem Vogel auf dem Vorfeld des Stewart International gemacht hat:

Wäre es nicht großartig, wenn sie regelmäßig kämen – vielleicht drei Mal pro Woche? Am besten mit einer Verbindung nach Köln (oder meinetwegen auch Düsseldorf). Das Rheinland hat seit dem Ende von Air Berlin im Jahr 2017 keine direkte Anbindung mehr an New York – da muss man doch was machen, oder?
Vom Rhein an den Hudson: Eine Verbindung künstlerischer Art gibt es ja schon lange – die Hudson River School wurde stark von der Düsseldorfer Malerschule inspiriert. Das ließe sich doch auch werbetechnisch ausschlachten, oder? LOL 😄
🇺🇸 Last Discover Flight of the 2025 Season to and from SWF
The last Discover flight of the 2025 season to and from Stewart International Airport (SWF) is happening today, October 23 — and as luck would have it, I’m not home.
Thursday is my office day, and I have to be in the city that never sleeps.
Even though this time I actually knew two days in advance that they’d be coming again, I couldn’t reschedule my meetings in the city.
A member of the CFWU community had sent me a message via Signal:
The crew responsible for the return flight to Frankfurt was being flown in on a regular commercial flight and dropped off somewhere “near” the airport two days earlier. Fabian, who was part of that crew, reached out to me on Signal — how awesome! Thanks so much for thinking of me!
Even better, while I wasn’t home, he managed to snap two quick photos of the bird on the ramp at Stewart International just before departure:

Wouldn’t it be great if they came regularly — say, three times a week?
Ideally with a route to Cologne (or I’d even take Düsseldorf).
Since Air Berlin went under in 2017, the Rhineland hasn’t had a direct connection to New York — that really needs to change!
From the Rhine to the Hudson — there’s already an artistic connection between the two: the Hudson River School was heavily inspired by the Düsseldorf School of Painting.
That’s something you could totally turn into a marketing angle, right? LOL 😄
Heute war Eurowings Discover wieder am SWF, Kreuzfahrt-Business. Leider konnte ich zu der Zeit an dem der A330 gelandet ist nicht das Haus verlassen. Den Abflug konnte ich aus der Ferne von meinem Deck aus sehen. Ich hoffe, beim nächsten Turn-Around bin ich etwas dichter dran!
🇺🇸 Departure from SWF to Frankfurt – from a distance
Today, Eurowings Discover was back at SWF for the cruise business. Unfortunately, I couldn’t leave the house at the time the A330 landed. I was able to watch the departure from a distance from my deck. Hopefully, I’ll be a bit closer next time around!

🇩🇪 Es gibt doch noch internationale Flüge, direkt von und nach Deutschland am SWF
Erinnert ihr euch an den Artikel aus 2023, in dem ich das Portal Simple Flying zitiert habe? Damals hieß es, Eurowings Discover mache „Testflüge“ zum Flughafen Stewart International. Stimmte irgendwie – nur waren die Maschinen gleichzeitig auch voll besetzt.
Schon damals fand ich es merkwürdig, dass man diese Flüge nirgends buchen konnte. Vier Turnarounds mit leeren A330ern? Wohl kaum kosteneffizient. Dieses Jahr habe ich dann zufällig auf Flightradar24 gesehen, dass wieder eine Discover-Maschine aus Frankfurt im Anflug ist – und hab mich gefragt: Was steckt dahinter?
Bei Discover hatte man mir schon 2023 gesagt, dass es keine Linie FRA–SWF geben wird. Warum also tauchen die Vögel trotzdem wieder hier auf?
Die Antwort habe ich aus einer Flieger-Community auf Signal (von den CFWU-Podcast-Hosts): Diese Flüge sind Charter für Kreuzfahrtschiffe! Seit 2023 kommen sie jedes Jahr im September/Oktober für vier Turnarounds nach Newburgh.
Super Sache – so wird das internationale Terminal wenigstens ein bisschen genutzt. Seit PLAY weg ist, haben die Grenzbeamten dort bestimmt schon Häkeln gelernt.
Ich hoffe, dass ich es in den nächsten Wochen mal schaffe, eine Landung des A330 am SWF zu knipsen. Leider ist der Flugplan für dieses Jahr nicht komplett auf Flightradar24 einsehbar – also bleibt mir nur, täglich zu checken, ob ein Vogel aus Frankfurt im Anflug ist.
🇺🇸 Yes, there are still international flights from Germany to SWF
Remember that 2023 article I wrote where I quoted Simple Flying? Back then, they reported that Eurowings Discover was running some “test flights” to Stewart International. Well, that was only half true – maybe they were test runs, but the planes were actually full of passengers.
I already wondered why those flights never showed up in any booking system. Flying four empty A330 turnarounds would hardly make sense, right? Fast-forward to this year: while browsing Flightradar24, I suddenly saw another Discover plane inbound from Frankfurt. That got me curious – why are they back if those 2023 test flights were supposedly “unsuccessful”?
I had asked Discover directly at the time, and they confirmed there were no plans for a FRA–SWF route. So why on earth are they landing here again in 2025?
Turns out, thanks to a flying community on Signal (run by the CFWU podcast hosts), I found out the real story: These flights are actually charters for cruise ships! Since 2023 they’ve been running four round trips each September/October straight into Stewart.
Pretty cool – at least the international terminal gets some use. Since PLAY pulled out, the customs officers here probably started crocheting to pass the time.
I’m hoping to catch one of those A330 landings with my camera in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, the full flight schedule isn’t public on Flightradar24 this year – so for now I just have to check daily if a bird from Frankfurt is heading our way.
