Die Blog-Einträge über New York und das Hudson Valley sind bereits von der Webseite verschwunden,  nur ein Rest im aktuellen Flugplan zeigt, dass Play noch ein paar Mal nach Newburgh kommt und dann Schluss ist. Wobei die Angabe 7/Woche schon nicht mehr stimmt.

The blog posts about New York and the Hudson Valley have already disappeared from the website; only a small note in the current flight schedule shows that Play will be flying to Newburgh a few more times — and then that’s it. The listed “7 per week” is already no longer accurate.

Nachdem heute Play's Airbus A320 mit dem Kennzeichen #TF-PPB als Flug #OG121 aus Keflavik (KEF) hier am Stewart International Airport (SWF) auf Landebahn 27 aufgesetzt hat, bleiben nur noch 18 weitere Landungen bevor die Route eingestellt wird.

After Play's Airbus A320, registration TF-PPB, touched down today as flight OG121 from Keflavik (KEF) on runway 27 at Stewart International Airport (SWF), only 18 more landings remain before the route is discontinued.

Heute schreibt Hank Gross in den Mid-Hudson-News, dass der neue Präsident der Metro North bereits eine Studie auf den Weg gebracht hat, den Flughafen Stewart per Bahn besser an New York City anzubinden. Wie ich schon an anderer Stelle geschrieben habe, soll eine Stichstrecke von Salisbury-Mills zum Flughafen neu erstellt werden.

Ich bin mal gespannt, ob ich das noch erlebe. Aus Deutschland kenne ich das Elend mit den Studien ja nur zu gut - da wird viel Geld ausgegeben, Jahre ziehen ins Land, Präsidenten und Regierungen wechseln und am Ende passiert genau nichts.

Today, Hank Gross reports in the Mid-Hudson News that the new president of Metro-North has already initiated a study to improve rail access from New York City to Stewart Airport. As I’ve written elsewhere, a new spur line from Salisbury Mills to the airport is being considered.

I’m curious whether I’ll live to see it happen. Coming from Germany, I know all too well the misery of such studies – a lot of money is spent, years go by, presidents and governments change, and in the end, absolutely nothing happens.

🇩🇪Die Presse schreibt dieser Tag viel über das Ende der Nordamerikaverbindungen von PLAY. Wobei diese Headline hier es etwas zu dramatisch darstellt - es wird sicherlich keine grosse, zerstörerische Krise in der Luftfahrt auslösen weil am Tag 3 A320 weniger hier landen.

Das ist wirklich eine traurige Nachricht: Ab September 2025 wird PLAY keine Flüge mehr in die USA anbieten. Besonders bitter, da gerade erst die Petition für mehr Flugverkehr am SWF gestartet wurde – und nun erreichen uns diese schlechten Neuigkeiten aus Reykjavik.

Game over: PLAY to stop flying to the U.S. 

This is truly disappointing news: Starting in September 2025, PLAY will no longer offer flights to the U.S. Especially frustrating considering the recent petition calling for more air traffic at SWF—only to be met with this unfortunate update from Reykjavik.

Jemand hat ein Petition gestartet um Stimmen zu sammeln die das Interesse zeigen, SWF als Ausgangspunkt zum Reisen zu nutzen. Die grossen New Yorker Flughäfen sind nicht nur überlastet, es ist auch eine weite und stressige Anreise von hier bis zum JFK oder EWR. Und wenn man dann mal da ist, zahlt man teurer Parkhausgebühren um sein Auto da stehen zu lassen.

Es findet derzeit ein wenig Verkehr am SWF statt - etwa 5x pro Woche fliegt FLYPLAY von hier nach Reykjavik (KEF) um von dort aus für die, die nicht auf Island bleiben wollen, Anschlüsse nach ganz Europa anzubieten.

Breeze und Allegian Air bringen einen mehrmals pro Woche nach Floria oder Sout Carolina. Aber das war es auch schon.

Den letzten grossen Boom erlebte SWF um 2017 herum, als NORWEGIAN von hier mehrer Ziele in Irland und Grossbrittanien ansteuerte und zu Spitzenzeiten sogar zwei Flüge täglich nach Dublin im Programm hatte! Leider hat die Boeing 737-MAX Krise hier die Airline zum Aufgeben gezwungen.

Letztendlich kam Covid und seither sind auch die letzten grossen Carrier wie Jetblue, Delta und United von hier verschwunden.

Zurueck zum Thema, mit den Problemen die EWR im Moment mit der Flugsicherung hat und auch den, wie gesagt, ueberlasteten Flughaefen um New York City, wurde diese Petion...

 ... ins Leben gerufen. Dass ich die unterzeichne ist ein "no-brainer", da SWF ein für mich sehr bequem zu erreichender Flughafen ist, und ich kein Interesse habe via JFK oder EWR zu reisen. Zu viele Menschen :)

Someone started a petition to gather signatures showing interest in using SWF as a starting point for travel. The major New York airports are not only overcrowded, but getting to JFK or EWR from here is also a long and stressful journey. And once you're there, you end up paying high parking fees just to leave your car.

There is currently a small amount of traffic at SWF – about five times a week, FLYPLAY flies from here to Reykjavik (KEF), offering connections from there to all over Europe for those who don’t want to stay in Iceland.

Breeze and Allegiant Air fly several times a week to Florida or South Carolina. But that’s about it.

SWF experienced its last big boom around 2017, when NORWEGIAN flew to several destinations in Ireland and Great Britain from here, even offering up to two daily flights to Dublin at its peak! Unfortunately, the Boeing 737 MAX crisis forced the airline to shut down operations here.

Then came COVID, and since then, the last major carriers like JetBlue, Delta, and United have also disappeared from the airport.

Back to the topic: with the current air traffic control issues at EWR and the already overcrowded airports around New York City, this petition was...

...launched. Signing it is a no-brainer for me, since SWF is a very conveniently accessible airport for me, and I have no interest in traveling via JFK or EWR. Too many people :)
