Noch ein Flug in die Sonne, dabei braucht Stewart endlich wieder die Welt — Another Flight to the Sun, When What Stewart Really Needs Is the World

Ich habe heute den Artikel „Breeze Adds Three One-Stop Routes from Fort Lauderdale" (Airways Magazine, 13.10.2026) gelesen.

Was Stewart fehlt, ist etwas ganz anderes.

Also: Willkommen, Fort Lauderdale.

🇺🇸 Another Flight to the Sun, When What Stewart Really Needs Is the World

I read the article "Breeze Adds Three One-Stop Routes from Fort Lauderdale" (Airways Magazine, Oct. 13, 2026) today. The news: starting May 2027, Breeze Airways will link Fort Lauderdale (FLL) with New York Stewart (SWF)

It's not quite nonstop, though. Breeze calls the product "BreezeThru": the aircraft makes an intermediate stop in Myrtle Beach, and passengers stay on board. According to the booking system, the trip from Fort Lauderdale to Stewart takes about 4 hours 37 minutes, with two flights a week, Mondays and Fridays: Starting May 28, 2027.

That's nice. Any new service out of Stewart is good news at first glance, and I don't begrudge any snowbird their spot in the sun. But honestly: we're not short on Florida flights. Allegiant already flies to St. Pete-Clearwater, Orlando-Sanford, and Punta Gorda, and Breeze has Florida on its map too. What Stewart is missing is something else entirely.

We want to go international again! Or at least a link to a major hub that gets you to Europe with ease. Since PLAY left, there hasn't been a single scheduled flight across the Atlantic from Stewart. And yet the Hudson Valley has shown the demand is there. Just think of the Norwegian years and PLAY to Reykjavik.

My wish hasn't changed: a daily flight to a real hub. Ideally Aer Lingus to Dublin, with its U.S. Preclearance or a major U.S. carrier connecting us to its hub, from where Europe is just one connection away. The talk around the Minimum Revenue Guarantee shows that people are at least thinking in that direction.

So: welcome, Fort Lauderdale. But let's not forget: Stewart, the "sleeping giant," doesn't need another beach flight. It needs a gateway to the world.
